This just came to my attention tonight. It's fun to poke at other country's politicians while your own are fond of a cock-up, too.

Fuck you, Eircom!

...and your pissy 3meg broadband that rarely even tops 1.5!
I'mma going to Magnet.

Also, I thought this was worth sharing.
What Kurt Cobain'd look like if he was still alive (according to a computer). Doesn't he just look like someone's Dad?

Shit if my ear isn't itchy!
New piercing, healing itch is driving me buggered.

Euragh!

gah! editors...

My latest published pattern (don't I sound fancy?) is becoming a bit of a nightmare. It was heavily edited before it was published, and now I have a couple of people trying to make it, who are getting into dire straits because a bit that the editor didn't think was important was, in fact VITAL to the gloves coming out in any way hand-shaped.

Sooo, I'm fixing it, putting up additional charts on my craft blog, which is a pain in the arse. I hate making charts in crochet. They're so fecking fiddly!

Still, standing back... and looking at what I'm doing is pretty awesome. I have another pattern published, people are making it... and I did a better job of writing it than the tech editors did of setting it to the magazine's pattern language.

Yea, it's not so bad, really. : )

I've also managed to sell sixty things in my etsy shop, that's nice pocket money for Christmas-making supplies. : )

Smiling

You know what? I'm having a great time.
The following is currently making me smile:

Work is scooting along nicely, and money is trickling in.

Christmas present-making is also pootling along at a decent clip.

I'm watching Farscape again, the first time since the whole Aaron thing started, and it's losing its "I did this with him" aura.

Listening to Alanis Morrisette's Jagged Little Pill really never grows old.

My mind has... completely... stopped guilt-tripping me.

It's winter, finally.

Dave gives the BEST hugs and it's like, on top of the love I already have for him, I'm falling in love with him all over again.

I remembered the term "A fair whacker" yesterday, while describing the size of turkey we usually have to get to feed our 14-odd Christmas guests.

super me

I'm not gonna jynx it, but...

I'm invincible!
Or, rather, I will be in two weeks. Just got me the swine flu' jab. That's one benefit of diabetes. I get the good stuff before the rest of the great unwashed. Didn't hurt; I was very brave, but now I'm all achey, as they said I might be. I guess, having inert swine flu' particles streaming around my body is bound to have some side-effects.

Which brings me to a punctuation problem I've just discovered;
- flu' is short for influenza.
- apostrophes are used to replace letters that have been removed.

So, shouldn't it be 'flu'?
But that then makes it look like you're not taking it seriously. "Oh, Albert had swine 'flu'" sounds like you don't believe Albert was sick at all.

Fucking Albert. Can't ever trust him...

6 word story

I just spotted a community in the Spotlight who allow only six-word stories, and I thought, what a great idea. I'm not going to join it, but I like the idea as a bit of a personal LJ thing.

I might start doing it.

Dreamy

I'm off to the physio in a few hours, to finally put an end to this stupid lower back nonesense.
I'm excited!

In other news:
I had a strange dream last night involving the following peoples:
Munky,
Starrah,
CdAaah,
nacho,
and Liz.

We were having a Victorian-type picnic on a hill, under a tree, in a world that looked too swirly to be real, kinda Burtonesque, but with more colour. So, Tim Burton on acid. There was a discussion about the quality of the iced buns, and I remember being very nervous and not saying anything as no-one knew I'd baked them. I was stupidly scared that no-one would like them.

I woke up with the line "Like my buns, Goddammit!" in my head.

super me

8 down

Go me! Almost finished the 8th page today!
I'm not going to figure out how many pages are left. I'm going to be truculant about this; gonna hit myself on the head if I try to do the maths.

Still, super me requires new, super avatar.

Also, it just struck me - whatever happened to aye?
I've been thinking about her today, what with her graphic designyness. Can't seem to find her on anyone's list...

Trodden on

Dear Body...

I apologise. Wholeheartedly and with all my might.
I had no idea that two and a half fucking glasses of wine, and a bit of passive stonage over the course of three movies would leave me so wrecked.

Arms, legs; I hope you feel better soon; you're not really as heavy as you feel. Honest. And I'm pretty sure the shaking will stop over the next few hours.
Head; The world is not turning, with you at its epicentre.
Stomach: I have no words. I only hope that someday, food won't seem like such an evil idea.

Thanks for your attention,
flick

PS. I'm going to get back into the shower now, and I know you'll feel better once this conditioner has been rinsed out.

Also, like I didn't already know this... )

Rumbling Thunder

Do you ever get the feeling that something is going to happen; that the clouds are gathering; the air electrified and that, before long, a storm to cleanse everything will be upon you?

Whether it's metaphorical or physical, I can't wait!

Muse - The Resistance

Where have you been all my life?
It's difficult to imagine a better album for 2009. From its opening bars The Resistance plays like a soundtrack to my year. The Uprising made me almost crash my car when I first heard it. Now, Muse's greatest tracks from by-gone years tend to make an unsafe driver out of me as I end up unable to stop myself dancing to them, accelerator being pumped a bit too much for built-up areas; Supermassive Black Hole being the worst (or best?) culprit. Man, I fucking love that song.

And while, yes, Uprising doesn't reach that "Good God, I wanna strip to this song right fucking now!" heights that Supermassive Black Hole (despite the unsexy connotations the title leans towards) does, it's still a damn good start to a damn good album.

Resistance, the title track, has a sadness to it that is effectively juxtaposed by the beat, resulting in a solid anthem.

Undisclosed Desires is very Depeche Mode. This is a good thing.

MK Ultra is marchy and bouncy, but it's no Exo-Politics.

There are, it must be said, one or two weak spots in there; United States of Eurasia doesn't feel like it belongs on this album - like it's the obnoxious cousin at a family gathering that thinks everyone like him - but that is more than made up for with Exogenesis 1, 2, and 3 to finish this collection off nicely. In all, it's great computer-work music.

And who knows? With a few more listens, maybe I'll see some good in that cousin of mine.

It's finally, truly autumn!
I know; it really happened two months ago, but still, it lashed yesterday, for the whole day, and today everything seemed so clean, and breathing and new. Even all the leaves starting to gather on the eground seemed happy to be in damp clumps.

Really lovely, and the smell! Oh, God, I so do love the awesome wet, cold earthy smell you get when the seasons really start to wind down for a long, cold sleep.

I love this country.
Remind me never to leave it for more than a holiday.

Goddammit, I love crochet!

I just do. I always figured that the only thing that could kill my love of fibre arts* would be if I was allowed to it all day, from sun up, to sun down, but nope. That's just made its grip on my that bit stronger.

The house is currently being littered with hats and gloves for the winter.
I've written out the pattern for this, so it got lovely photos to help sell it, too.

Poor dinky fingers look only a little less inelegant than usual. When I become famous, I'll be able to hire a hand model, but until then, I have to use my own.

*yes, that's now the accepted fancy term for knitting, crochet, spinning, tatting, weaving, felting, etc.

So, I just heard a rumour that Muse could be supporting Depeche Mode over here in December. I have my ticket already, but how awesome would it be if this turns out to be true?

Very.

I've loved Muse for ages; they're just sexy. So, yea, a night of Muse 'n' Mode would set me up very nicely.

So, as I sit here, at my desk, wiggling my little tooshie to Supermassive Black Hole, I pray; please, Gods of Music, make this be true!

Musings

I got all nostalgic earlier and looked up a few people from my primary school class. So far I have found a local GAA star player, a convicted felon and an Irish teacher... Not a bad start!

I think I wanna try to organise a reunion... I'd love to see where everyone's ended up over the last 16 years or so...

edit: Make that THREE GAA stars, one of whom has gone on to be a referee...

...and possibly one fatal stabbing victim (so far unconfirmed... I'm checking)

... and a tax "consultant". ooh, schmancy!
